Who is ALICE? It stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed; and is a measure of financial hardship among working individuals and families. Anyone can be ALICE, whether it is a relative, a neighbor, your healthcare provider, the cashier who checks you out at the grocery store, or even yourself.
The ALICE metric provides a more accurate picture of financial hardship by taking into account the cost of basic needs such as housing, food, child care, health care, and transportation. Those considered ALICE are employed and earn just above the Federal Poverty Line yet not enough to make ends meet.
